B-Wings (Bウィング), also known as Battle Wings, is a shoot 'em up video game developed by Data East and released in 1984 for arcades. It was ported in 1986 to the Nintendo Famicom.

Story[]

The FX-1 , commonly known as "B-WING", is a multi-purpose fighter developed by the Space Defense Force. F stands for Fighter, and X-1 stands for Prototype No. 1 (also called Main Fighter). Equipped with the WING, an optional part, it is a machine that can demonstrate various attack capabilities. On the day of the test flight, the FX-1 equipped with one type of WING is boarded by elite pilot Teleo La Course. Test results are generally positive. However, what awaited Teleo when he returned was a base that had been attacked and destroyed by someone. All other WINGs were also stolen. The only message left is the name "Gobunas". In order to recapture WING, Teleo confronts Gobunas with the FX-1.

Gameplay[]

B-Wings is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up. The main mechanic of the game involves the ability to equip different types of WINGs, with the ship's main gun changing depending on the currently equipped WING. The first button fires the main gun, while the second button detonates the equipped WING. If the player has no WING equipped the second button will make the ship descend to a lower level. While on the lower level the ship can avoid all aerial enemies but is vulnerable to ground enemies and can crash into buildings and other structures.
